With the top three separated by less than a minute, the second to last stage (and what most people call the last “real” stage) will likely decide the winner of the Tour de France this year. The Australian, Cadel Evans, is 4 seconds behind Frank Schleck from Luxemburg, and 57 seconds behind Frank’s brother, Andy. But Evans is known as a better time trial rider as either brother, and that is exactly what this last “real” stage is, a time trial.

The stage may even lead to the final stage into Paris being close enough to be exciting itself.

Come find out with us on Saturday morning. There & Back is hosting a ride from the shop (1712 E Speedway) that starts at 6am and ends at Ghini’s at 6:30 to watch the coverage of le Tour. We’ll stick around at Ghini’s to see how this exciting race will end.

So about 4 or 5 months ago, I heard of this new bike that Sun was making… the Atlas Cargo Bike. It was a longtail bike – like the Xtracycle, but was affordable enough for us all ($699! – not $1800). So I talked to the people at Sun, and pre-ordered some. They were due the 28th of March… which became the 25th of April… which became the 16th of May… which became the 27th of May… which finally became the 31st of May. Phew. But they are here! And built up and ready to ride.

Cargo Hauling Machine!

What is a longtail bike? It’s a kind of cargo bike that can take a total rider+cargo load of 400 lbs. That means a rider and passenger, or rider and a LOT of groceries, or rider and small appliances, or a rider and camping gear, or a rider with work tools, you name it – this thing can carry it – there are even baby seats made specifically for these bikes! The bags that you can get for the bike can easily fit six grocery bags, or whatever else, they latch and unlatch quickly, and are rugged and durable.

The Atlas is kind of special in that it is a one piece frame, which makes it stronger. It’s made of (cro-moly) steel, which also makes it tougher than the average bike. It comes with the rear rack and top, but without bags. A pair of bags can cost from $60 to $150, depending on the model.

So at $849, you have a bike that can nearly replace your car for trips under 3-5 miles. How much is a tank of gas again….? Man, how many tanks could this bike save you? Not to mention the wear and tear on your car.

Come down and ride one. I bet you’ll love it. I’ll even give you a ride on mine if I have it with me that day.

My father is up and walking again – with a freezer full of food. I have come back to the Old Pueblo. There & Back is back to normal hours. I am posting an updated class schedule, and info on the last bike-to-work breakfast for the season (gasp). The good news is that with the summer, I will be doing some evening – after work rides to happy hour. I am also looking to get a deal lined up with a local venue to go watch the Tour de France (I may not be a racer myself – but there is something wonderful about watching the best of the best fly down the road. I always ride a little faster to work during the weeks the Tour is on).

Hey All,

My pappy is having a knee replacement today, the 4th, so I am driving up to take care of him for a week. Some nice friends will be taking care of the shop for me for the week (Big Thanks to Tom, A-Todd, Lynnder, and C-Case). This has two consequences:

1) We will not be doing involved repairs for these eight days

2) We will have reduced hours

Other than that – game on.

Here is the list of the hours There & Back Bikes will be open this coming week.

5/4 Wednesday 1-5pm

5/5 Thursday 12-5pm

5/6 Friday 1-5pm

5/7 Saturday 10am-6pm

5/8 Sunday 1-5pm

5/9 Monday Closed

5/10 Tuesday 1-7pm

5/11 Wednesday 1-7pm

Beginning on the 12th we will resume our normal hours. Thanks so much for your understanding, and I look forward to seeing you again in a week.

Rough roads Bike tour was a success. Fun for all. I will post a more complete description with better photos in the next few days.

If you haven’t heard of these bells, they are hand-painted in Canada using non-toxic paints. The base layer is applied by a group that offers job opportunities to youth. These bells came about because the now-owner of the company looked for a bell for her child one year for a present and found nothing acceptable. She made her own superlative bells.

For more information on the bells and to see many more designs (many of which are in stock here now!), visit their site.

Yum!

Beyond Cute.

Come in and check these out. We have more than are on display available, so if you want to see back stock make sure to ask.
